The Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway provides many scenic overlooks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway passes through Blowing Rock NC at Milepost 292 at U.S. Highway 321. Drive South on the Blue Ridge Parkway from Blowing Rock NC, and you will discover many hiking trails, Price Lake Park, Campground and Picnic Areas, Linn Cove Viaduct, Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls.

Blowing Rock NC Fishing

Blowing Rock NC is home to 3 small lakes; Bass Lake, Trout Lake and Price Lake, which are managed by the U.S. National Park Service. Fishing is allowed on all 3 lakes (North Carolina Fishing Licenses are available at Village Hardware, 312 Green Street, Blowing Rock NC). Boats are not allowed on Bass Lake or Trout Lake. No motor boats are allowed on Price Lake. Free Admission.

Blowing Rock NC Canoeing

Price Lake (Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 296.7) provides canoe and boat rentals during the summer months and on weekends in October. This shallow lake, offers a perfect view of Grandfather Mountain to the south. Egrets, deer, ducks, beaver and turtles can be seen at Price Lake. Canoe rentals are managed by the U.S. National Park Service ($12/hour). Free Admission.

Blowing Rock NC Horseback Riding

The 26 miles of carriage trails at Moses Cone Memorial Park in Blowing Rock NC offer excellent horseback riding trails for the entire family. Horse trailer parking for loading and unloading of horses, is provided at the Bass Lake Park entrance, on U.S. Highway 221, south of Blowing Rock NC. Horse trailers are not allowed inside the park. Managed by the U.S. National Park Service. Open Daily from Sunrise to Sunset. Free Admission. BYOH.

Symphony by the Lake – July 28, 2017

Join us for the Symphony by the Lake at Chetola. Always the pinnacle event of the summer season, the Symphony of the Mountains will again delight the audience! A spectacular fireworks finale will create a perfect evening! Gates open at 5:30 PM, opening bands begin at 5:45 PM & Symphony at 7:30 PM.

Blowing Rock North Carolina Family Theme Parks

Tweetsie Railroad

Tweetsie Railroad has been a Blowing Rock NC favorite since opening in 1957. The Theme Park includes a 3 mile loop narrow gauge steam engine, a saloon and show, gold panning and gem mining, a petting zoo and other amusement rides. Located on U.S. Highway 321 halfway between Blowing Rock and Boone NC.

Blowing Rock North Carolina Caverns

Linville Caverns

Linville Caverns was opened to the public in 1937. The caverns are located just around the corner from Linville Falls on Highway 221 South, near the Blue Ridge Parkway. The caverns stays at 52°F year round. The cavern tour lasts about 35 minutes.

Appalachian Ski Mountain

Appalachian Ski Mountain in Blowing Rock NC features 12 ski slopes, ranging from easy to difficult, a small skating rink, ski shop, gift shop, nursery, restaurant, and ski instruction. The ski lodge is located just north of Blowing Rock off U.S. Highway 321 at 4,000’ elevation.

Winterfest – January 25–28, 2018

Winterfest in Blowing Rock NC is held the last weekend in January. Winterfest features a chili cook-off, winterfeast, a pancake breakfast, bonfire, ice carving, dog show, free hot chocolate and hay rides downtown, and the highlight of the four day winter event, the Polar Plunge at Chetola Resort, on Saturday morning.

Grandfather Mountain

The highest peak in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. Features the Mile High Swinging Bridge, bears, cougars, and otters in their natural habitats. Open year round, weather permitting. $20 Admission Fee.

Moses Cone Manor

Overlooking Blowing Rock NC and Bass Lake Park is the Moses Cone Manor, which was built in 1901. Access to the Moses Cone Manor is from the Blue Ridge Parkway, at Milepost 294 near Blowing Rock. Admission is Free. Open Daily, 3/15 – 11/30. Free Admission.

Bass Lake Park

Managed by the U.S. National Park Service, Bass Lake is part of the Moses Cone Park. The park features a 0.9 mile walking path around Bass Lake, and 26 miles of horse carriage roads. It is a local favorite for fall photographs, dog walking and fishing. Open Daily from Sunrise to Sunset.

Blowing Rock North Carolina Waterfalls

Linville Falls

Located about 26 miles south of Blowing Rock NC, on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 317, Linville Falls is managed by the U.S. National Park Service.

This National Park area features three different hiking trails, one to the top of the falls and to two higher overlooks of the falls. The park also features a visitor center, campground, and picnic area. Open Daily from Sunrise to Sunset.
